Obstructive apnea usually occurs when there is blockage of the upper respiratory air passages. This makes the throat muscle to collapse while the tongue falls back into the air passages or becomes enlarge and or the lymphatic tissue hinders the flow of air. During apnea event, the brain wake itself by signaling the respiratory organs to continue functioning. Most time patient undergoing this situation may not know this is happening to them unless their partner informs them on their night sleep breathing interruption.

Narcolepsy Sleep Disorder: Narcolepsy is sleep disorder affecting one out of two thousand people. Narcolepsy which is a neurological disorder results to inability of the brain to control sleep/ wakeup cycle. In most people, sleep occurs in two stages; the rapid eye movement (NEM) and the non rapid eye movement (NREM). Those with normal sleeping pattern have 5 to ninety minute’s cycle of alternating from REM and NREM with up to 75 percent sleep spent in the NREM cycle. In the REM sleep stage, the brain events heighten and most patients experience dreams. But in the NREM stage, the body relaxes in order to repair and build up bones and tissues to strengthen the immune system.  For those suffering Narcolepsy sleep disorder, sleep begins at the remaining stage and a short REM occurs involuntarily during waking up hours.

While causes of Narcolepsy can’t still be explained, medical experts have not been able to discover that people with this disorder have a reduced amount of neurotransmitter hypocretin that encourages wakefulness.

RLS discomfort ranges from serious form of irritations to painful moments.
